Development of Retrofitting Solutions: Remedial Wall Ties for Masonry Enclosure Brick Walls

چکیده
The external envelope walls of a significant percentage the residential building stock in Southern European countries is commonly constituted by infill masonry walls. However, thousands square meters this wall typology presents severe issues cracking and instability, related to incorrect deficient support conditions outer brick panel double-leaf solution. In work, an experimental campaign divided two phases has been performed evaluate effectiveness different remedial ties retrofitting techniques (Solution A Solution B) used for double leaf horizontally hollowed clay façades. first phase was on 120 isolated specimens bricks, resorting post- pre-NP EN 771-1 exemplars (that is, new pre-existent aged respectively), as well 4 wallettes, with side length 1.20 m, considered representative real scale scenario, evaluating techniques. second fully characterize failure types slipping phenomena observed campaign, focusing solely technique B comprises 24 tests specimens, resourcing bricks well. results obtained use these revealed average anchorage strength value ranging from 0.25 2.5 kN each tested tie-bar. reveals increase comparison A. sense, global suitable applicability both retrofit studied solutions.

Effective stiffness of unreinforced brick masonry walls
Code design of Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings is based on elastic analysis, which requires as input parameter the effective stiffness of URM walls. Current approaches estimate the effective stiffness as fixed ratio of the gross sectional stiffness but comparisons with experimental results have shown that this does not yield satisfactory predictions. In this paper, a recently developed ana...
متن کاملRetrofitting Masonry Walls with Carbon Mesh
Static-cyclic shear load tests and tensile tests on retrofitted masonry walls were conducted at UAS Fribourg for an evaluation of the newly developed retrofitting system, the S&P ARMO-System. This retrofitting system consists of a composite of carbon mesh embedded in a specially adapted high quality spray mortar. It can be applied with established construction techniques using traditional const...
متن کاملInvestigating Efficiency of Shotcrete for Retrofitting Masonry Buildings
One of a feasible and efficient method to retrofit structures is spraying shotcrete which is widely applied around the world. Shotcrete is concrete with fine aggregates which are sprayed through a hose and by air pressure coat at high velocity onto a surface. In the current research, three masonry schools from different regions of Iran are selected. The retrofitted wall surfaces have been prepa...
متن کاملLimit states of modern unreinforced clay brick masonry walls subjected to in-plane loading
Recent research showed that the in-plane horizontal displacement capacity of unreinforced masonry (URM) walls depends on numerous factors that are not yet captured by current empirical drift capacity models; e.g., axial stress, shear span, geometry of the walls and the material used. In order to improve the performance-based assessment of URM wall buildings, future research should aim at develo...
متن کاملHomogenization of Interlocking Masonry Walls
In a previous publication the authors proposed a continuous model for describing the mechanical behaviour of ‘Running Bond’ masonry walls. Here a different masonry structure is considered. This structure is ‘bi-atomic’ in the sense that its pattern consists in two kind of blocks with different. The homogenization by differential expansions technique is used for obtaining an equivalent Cosserat ...
